Entries are now welcome for the NSA Next Generations Shepherd of the Year competition to be held at NSA Scotsheep 2024 on Wednesday, 5 June, courtesy of the Hamilton Family at Aikengall, Innerwick, Dunbar.
With a total prize fund of £1400 up on offer, the NSA Scotsheep 2024 organising committee encourages all young sheep enthusiasts up to 26 years of age on 30 July, 2024, that also reside in Scotland to enter. Held at Thurston Mains Farm, Innverwick, Dunbar, on Tuesday, 4 June, the winner will receive £300 plus a trophy and, together with the runner up, will get the chance to represent NSA Scotland at the UK finals held at the NSA Sheep Event 2024 at Malvern on 30 July, 2024. The results will be announced during the prizegiving at Scotsheep 2024 on Wednesday, 5 June.
The overall competition is very generously sponsored by the Texel Sheep Society, while the International Sheep Dog Society is adding further support to the sheep dog handling element with additional prize money available.
All competitors will be expected to carry out five of the following six tasks – prime lamb selection; shear two sheep; ATV handling; example of correct foot care techniques/handling, vaccinating and dosing; answer questions on flock management and health (compulsory); and sheep dog handling.
Entering the competition is free and must be done so by Friday, 3 May. Further entry details can be found on the NSA Scotsheep website or by contacting NSA Scotsheep organiser, Euan Emslie, at [email protected].
