A HUGE prize pot of £3000 is up for grabs for shearers taking part in the speed shear competition at NSA Scotsheep 2024
28th March 2024
A HUGE prize pot of £3000 is up for grabs for shearers taking part in the speed shear competition at the National Sheep Association’s Scotsheep event to be held at the Hamilton family’s Aikengall Farm, Innerwick, Dunbar, on Wednesday, 5 June.
Entries are now welcome for the competition which will see shearers take to the boards to shear a single sheep that has already been crutched in the fastest time they can, while also maintaining the standards expected of professional shearers.
There will be a limit of 50 shearers from only the open and senior competition sections, so entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis with the possibility of entries being taken on the day depending on number of entrants forward. Shearers will also be welcome to compete in team event of two shearers, entries for this will be taken on the day and numbers will be limited at the organiser’s discretion.
Each entrant will receive a specially designed singlet kindly donated by Cammy Wilson, of the Sheep Game, and United Auctions’ auctions, Raymond Kennedy, will provide some entertaining commentary.
Entering the competition will cost £30 which includes the £20 entry ticket to Scotsheep itself and first prize will take away £1000 and second £500, down to £50 for sixth. Winning teams, too, will take their own fair shear with the first prize duo awarded £500 between them with prize money down to fourth place team.
See the website for more details and contact NSA’s Euan Emslie on [email protected] to make your entry.
